Today's laser machines must be able to keep up with the various trends on the market, whether it be increasingly powerful laser sources, different types of fibres or even new gases for laser cutting. Innovation is necessary because applications must become increasingly efficient and transparent. The new ELEMENT technology platform from Messer Cutting Systems GmbH encompasses more than 120 years of experience in thermal cutting. The new product line has been designed to take full advantage of the new hardware and software technologies on the market, while maintaining the robustness, durability and quality typical of Messer Cutting Systems products.

The new Global ConnectTM numerical control with Twin-cut 3 technology and new work cycles have been developed to optimise production and ease of use.

The Element L version, specially designed for large lasers, combines dynamics and acceleration to provide large sheet metal cutting service centres with an extremely high-performance and productive system. Since its launch in 2021 at our parent company in Germany, numerous fully automatic systems with a useful cutting dimension of 3x14 m have been ordered and are being installed in Italy, all equipped with a 5-axis head. Negotiations are also in progress with large companies in the sector.

A large laser system, complete with loading/unloading and slag cleaning system, is much more complex than one might think: the cutting gantry must interact with various subsystems that allow for continuous use with work cycles that can far exceed several shifts with XXL formats. 

Just a few examples:

The automation that allows the movement of sheets from the loading/unloading area to the cutting area and vice versa can even move sheets with loads of 8,500 kg for up to 20/30 times a day unattended, 
The management of suction flow rates depending on the work cycle: cutting, marking and repositioning, 
The cleaning of the entire cutting and handling area in masked time to guarantee cutting times above the market average
The automatic management of the entire cutting head system with nozzle change, height control, anti-collision and focus setting according to thicknesses and materials, all optimised with the job list. 
The opening and closing of accesses for sheet metal and maintenance in absolute safety according to the regulations for type 4 lasers.

The growing shortage of skilled workers is driving large cutting centres to search the market for laser cutting systems in which one operator must be able to supervise several machines. Industry 4.0, with its requirements, has led us to develop more and more the possibility to control even more systems and to remotely manage most of the off-line programming functions.
